University of Central Lancashire - Astrophysics centre gets £1m

A centre for astrophysics has won £1 million in funding to support research and teaching. Gordon Bromage, head of the centre at the University of Central Lancashire, said the money from the Science and Technology Facilities Council was "further evidence of our fast-growing reputation". One of those to benefit will be solar physicist Robert Walsh, who obtained funding to track the flow of energy from outer layers of the Sun out into interplanetary space. "To say the Sun is important to us is an understatement. It really is our life-giving star, and it is vital that we explore this Sun-Earth connection," he said.
