Beatrice Heuser, the historian and political scientist, has been appointed to a new chair in international relations in the School of Sociology, Politics and International Relations at Reading University.
- Lancaster University's department of European languages and cultures has made three appointments. Charlotte Baker arrives from Nottingham University, where she recently completed her PhD thesis. Cornelia Grabner joins from the University of Amsterdam after finishing her doctorate, and Anne Sophie Krossa becomes a lecturer in European studies, joining from the University of Giessen, Germany.
- Vicki Hanson, manager of accessibility research at IBM's T. J. Watson Research Center in Hawthorne, New York, has been awarded a Leverhulme Trust grant to become a visiting professor at Dundee University.
- Shakespearean scholar Jonathan Bate and broadcaster Sally Doganis have been appointed to the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). Seven existing members of the AHRC have been re-appointed. They are: Ivon Asquith, John Caughie, Rachel Cooper, April McMahon, Nicholas Kenyon, Bahram Bekhradnia and Martin White.
- York University has appointed Stephen Town, formerly director of knowledge services at Cranfield University's Shrivenham campus, as university librarian.
