A-level standards panel launched
An international review panel to examine the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority’s stewardship of A-level standards is being launched today by the authority’s new chief executive, David Hargreaves.
Islamic centre objection rejected
People living near Magdalen College, Oxford, have failed in their attempt to stop the building of an Islamic centre. A High Court judge rejected claims that the plan had been unfairly approved by Oxford City Council.
Winchester campus flooded
Artefacts, library books and student coursework are being removed from the University of Southampton’s Winchester campus after the River Itchen burst its banks, overflowing on to the campus. Many buildings are off limits until structural damage has been assessed.
Antennae to divert phone radiation
The University of Bradford has set up a spin-off company, Blue Dot Antennas, to develop a small antenna for mobile phones to direct radiation away from the brain without affecting reception.
