MoD steps up war against terror
Britain must be prepared to take the war against terrorism to countries that "support, nurture, protect and direct" terrorist organisations, defence secretary Geoff Hoon warned today. In a wide-ranging speech, at King’s College London, Mr Hoon disclosed that the Ministry of Defence was now reviewing Britain’s air defence in the light of the September 11 attacks on the United States.

Near-death research goes public
A public seminar to explain the latest scientific research on near-death experiences will be held in Southampton this Saturday. Sam Parnia, a clinical research fellow at the University of Southampton will speak about a pioneering study involving heart attack patients resuscitated at Southampton General Hospital.

Tanni Grey-Thompson, winner of four gold medals at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, launched a venture between the Youth Sport Trust and Nestle UK to train students as volunteer sports leaders today.
