Ronald Barnett, dean of professional development at the Institute of Education, University of London, has been awarded a DLitt (Ed) by the University of London in recognition of his contribution to the study of higher education.
Michael Healy, visiting professorial fellow at the institute, has been awarded a gold medal from the Royal Statistical Society. The medal is awarded to an outstanding statistician once every three years.

Nigel Whiteley, professor of art at Lancaster University, has been awarded a Getty Fellowship to study the works of Reyner Banham, architecture, design and art theorist and critic, at the Getty Museum, Los Angeles.
