Tony Blair has appointed the following to the Council for Science and Technology, an advisory body for science education, research, knowledge transfer and science communication:
John Beringer , professor of microbiology and pro vice-chancellor of Bristol University; Geoffrey Boulton , professor of geology at Edinburgh University; Janet Finch , vice-chancellor of Keele University; Andrew Gould , member of the National Centre for Continuing Professional Education of Dentists; Wendy Hall , head of the School of Electronics and Computer Science at Southampton University and president of the British Computer Society; Hermann Hauser , fellow of the Institute of Physics and of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and honorary fellow of King's College, Cambridge University; Dieter Helm , fellow in economics at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University, and research associate at the Institute for Fiscal Studies; Alan Hughes , director of the Centre for Business Research at Cambridge; Sue Ion , technology director at British Nuclear Fuels and fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering; Rob Margetts , chairman of the Natural Environment Research Council and governor of Imperial College London; Keith Peters , regius professor of physics at the School of Clinical Medicine, Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge; Raj Rajagopal , chief executive of BOC Edwards, and chair of the Institution of Electrical Engineers' manufacturing sector panel; Mike Sterling , vice-chancellor of Birmingham University and president of the Institution of Electrical Engineers; Kathy Sykes , professor of public engagement in science and engineering at Bristol; and Mark Walport , director of the Wellcome Trust.
