King's College London has appointed: Alison Campbell , acting chief executive of MRC Technology, managing director of KCL Enterprises; and Michael Clarke , director of the International Policy Institute and professor of defence studies, acting head of the School of Social Science and Public Policy. Robert Frost , reader in early modern history and head of the department of history, will take over from David Ricks as head of the School of Humanities on August 1.

Cary Cooper , professor of organisational psychology and health and president of the British Academy of Management, has been appointed pro vice-chancellor of external relations at Lancaster University.

Jan Wilkinson , university librarian and keeper of the Brotherton Collection at Leeds University, has been appointed head of higher education at the British Library.

Ulster University has appointed: Dan Fleming of the School of Media and Performing Arts, professor of media and cultural studies; John Gillespie , head of the School of Languages and Literature, professor of French literature; Desmond Hunter of the School of Media and Performing Arts, professor of music; Rodney McAdam of the School of Business Organisation and Management, professor of innovation management; Valerie McKelvey-Martin , head of the School of Biomedical Sciences, professor of molecular biosciences; Geoff McMullan of the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences, professor of microbiology; Ciaran O'Neill of the School of Policy Studies, professor of health economics and policy; and Brian Scotney of the School of Computing and Information Engineering, professor of informatics.
