The University of Manchester has appointed Amelia Jones, former professor of art history at the University of California, as Pilkington chair of art history; Dorothy Trump, currently lecturer in clinical genetics at the University of Cambridge, has been appointed professor of human molecular genetics.
Stephen Smith, currently professor of obstetrics and gynaecology and head of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Cambridge and the Rosie Hospital Cambridge, has been appointed executive dean of the faculty of medicine at the University of Glasgow. He succeeds Michael Farthing who will take up the principalship of St. George's Hospital Medical School, London.
Nilesh Samani, professor and head of the division of cardiology at the University of Leicester and consultant cardiologist at Glenfield Hospital, has been awarded a British Heart Foundation chair in cardiology.
The Royal Northern College of Music has appointed Susan Roper, currently professor of voice at the Royal Flemish Conservatoire in Belgium, as its professor of vocal studies; Stephen Hough, pianist, will take three masterclasses a year as RNCM's international chair in piano studies; Helen Krizos has been appointed assistant head following Mark Ray 's promotion to head of the school of keyboard studies.
John Latham, dean of the business school, has been appointed vice-principal (resources) at Southampton Institute; David Brown, formerly director of external relations, has been appointed assistant principal (knowledge transfer and inter- national work).
