Kay Driver, deputy general secretary of the Secondary Heads Association, has been elected general secretary.

University of Strathclyde The title emeritus librarian has been conferred upon Albert Harrison, librarian since 1982.

King's College, London

Patricia Rawlings, baroness, vice-president of the British Red Cross Society, director of the English Chamber Orchestra, has been appointed chairman of the college's council. She will succeed James Spooner on July 31.

University of Central Lancashire Peter Aggett, professor and former assistant director of the Institute of Food Research at Norwich, has been appointed head of the Postgraduate School of Medicine and Health.

Readerships have been awarded to: David Phoenix, department of applied biology; and Lubaina Himid, department of art and fashion.

University of Plymouth Clare Broom, formerly at the University of Hertfordshire, has been appointed dean of the Seale-Hayne Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Land Use.
