Craig Clunas, reader and former assistant keeper at the Victoria and Albert Museum, professor of history of art; Deborah Cherry, senior lecturer at the University of Manchester, professor in the history of art.

The following readers have been promoted: Paul Gough, professor in space science; Nicholas von Tunzelmann, professor in the economics of science and technology; Peter Way, professor in American history; Michael Pendlebury, professor in experimental physics. Michael Hobday, senior fellow, professorial fellow in the science policy research unit.

University of Manchester

School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Visiting Charles Brooker will work jointly between the university and the mental health service of Central Manchester Healthcare NHS Trust; Karen Luker will be in the university's national centre for primary care research; Jackie Oldham, associate dean and head of the research and graduate division, has been awarded a personal chair in the centre for rehabilitation science; Karen Waters, working jointly with the university and elderly care services of Central Manchester Healthcare NHS Trust.

Institute of Cancer Research

Raymond Powles, professor of haematological oncology; Michael Stratton, professor of cancer genetics; John Isaacs, professor of oncology and urology at Johns Hopkins University has been appointed visiting professor.

University of Cambridge

Duncan Maskell, formerly at Imperial College, London in the department of biochemistry, has been appointed Marks and Spencer professor of farm animal health, food science and food safety.
