This role reports directly to the University Vice President of Academic Affairs and serves as the chief academic and administrative leader of the School of HSS. Proven Research and Teaching Excellence: A strong record of scholarly research, evidenced by publications in top-tier, peer-reviewed international journals and prestigious presses in humanities and social sciences-related disciplines. A track record of effective teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, preferably in an international context. Academic Leadership Experience: Significant experience in academic administration, such as serving as a School Dean, associate Dean and department chair, or in similar leadership roles where they were responsible for overseeing staff, managing budgets, and developing academic programmes. Experience with staff development, curriculum design, research leadership, internationalisation and strategic planning. Global Perspective and International Experience: Experiences of working in international academic institutions. It has recruited highly accomplished faculty (four colleagues among the Top 2% most highly cited researchers according to Stanford University, three among Elsevier’s most highly cited researchers in China and one among the highly cited researcher by Clarivate ) from globally distinguished institutions working in these key disciplines. ABOUT College of Industry-Entrepreneurs (CIE) The College of Industry-Entrepreneurs (CIE) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is an interdisciplinary platform and a flagship model of XJTLU’s 3.0 educational philosophy, which redefines the future of higher education. As a core implementation of Syntegrative Education (SE) framework, CIE bridges academia, industry, and society to cultivate future-ready talent and drive innovation. Funded by community and industry contributions, it operates with a hybrid governance model combining academic rigor and business efficiency. Aligns with XJTLU 3.0’s emphasis on integrating education, industry, and societal needs, CIE focuses on three core pillars: the development of the X-Eco Mall, the empowerment of Industry-Entrepreneurs, and the promotion of strategic transformation and technological advancement. JOB DESCRIPTION CIE and HeXie Academy invite applications for open-rank faculty positions (Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Associate Professor / Full Professor) in Artificial Intelligence. We seek candidates whose research and teaching expertise aligns with one or more of the following priority areas: Foundation Models and Large Language Models (LLMs) Machine Learning Theory and Algorithms, including Applications in Science and Industry Generative AI and Creative Applications Responsible, Explainable, and Trustworthy AI (Ethics & Governance) AI Systems, High-Performance Computing, and Intelligent Manufacturing Natural Language Processing and Multimodal Intelligence Robotics, Human-AI Interaction, and Embodied Intelligence Experience or interest in applying AI to interdisciplinary domains, particularly in Ageing, Biopharmaceuticals, HR, Semiconductors, or Advanced Materials, is highly valued. The successful candidate will be expected to: Conduct cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research that bridges AI technology with industrial ecosystem management and innovation strategy. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS A PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related field. A demonstrable record of academic research and publication in reputable, peer-reviewed journals/conferences. Early-career applicants should show evidence of a strong and promising research pipeline. Proven experience in teaching at the higher education level. A strong alignment between research expertise and the strategic focus areas of CIE and HeXie Academy. Excellent communication skills and the ability to teach in an English-medium, intercultural environment. Additional Essential Requirements for Senior Associate Professor / Full Professor applicants: An outstanding record of excellence in teaching and curriculum development. A substantial and sustained record of high-quality academic publications. Proven success in securing and managing significant external research grants. A successful track record of supervising PhD students to completion. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Experience in interdisciplinary curriculum design and new programme development, particularly at the postgraduate level. A demonstrated interest or experience in applying AI to industrial contexts (e.g., biopharma, semiconductors, advanced materials) or ecosystem management. Active engagement with the professional and industrial community. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a collegial, interdisciplinary academic environment. Familiarity with the higher education landscape in China and/or a keen interest in contributing to XJTLU's "3.0" educational mission.
