ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Department belongs to the School of Science and focuses on Chemistry and Materials Science. It has recruited faculty from globally distinguished institutions working in these disciplines. Although relatively young, the Department has already established a solid reputation, as indicated by its large number of high quality research publications in impactful journals (Q1),  growing number of grant awards to its staff (e.g., from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and major industry partners) and national and international research collaborations. It has state-of-the-art instrumentation housed in custom-built labs, and provides excellent technical support. Current research areas include: Advanced materials, High-performance batteries and supercapacitors, Nano porous materials, Microfluidic-based biosensors, Nano-electrocatalysts - Energy nanomaterials, Biomaterials and their biomedical applications, High-throughput screening, Carbohydrates Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry, and AI/Robotics for Chemistry among others. The Department is dedicated to providing an international environment for both teaching and research, with around half of its academic staff born out of mainland China. The Department also collaborates closely with the newly established Advanced Materials Research Center (AMRC), a university-level research center specialized in the development and application of novel materials. The academic unit was first established in 2010 as the Department of Chemistry and recently was renamed into the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science to better describe its growing work and impact in the two fields. The Department currently delivers one undergraduate BSc programme in ‘Applied Chemistry’ and a BEng programme in ‘Materials Science and Engineering’ expected to start in September of 2025, two Master programmes ‘MRes in Advanced Chemistry’ and ‘MRes in Materials Science and Engineering’ and a ‘PhD in Chemistry.’ In 2017 our BSc in Applied Chemistry programme was accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, the first RSC accreditation of its kind in China. ROLES OVERVIEW: The broad mandate of the Educational Developer position is to support the implementation across XJTLU of learning and teaching. This is mainly achieved through the delivery of institutional academic development programmes; primarily, the PGCert programme, and other Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes. Other areas of support include providing assistance and guidance on peer review, and curriculum and assessment design, as well as collaborating with departments to develop specific learning and teaching strategies, events, or activities. As appropriate, the Educational Developer will conduct research on teaching and learning, develop pedagogical resources, and lead workshops and other events for faculty, students and staff. Supporting the teaching and learning practices of XJTLU staff are the primary responsibility and this position is open only as a teaching and practice position, not a teaching and research position.   We are currently looking for a candidate with a specialization in the following area. Industry-Integrated Education Based at our Taicang campus (XEC), this role will co-ordinate all of EDU’s support for all XEC faculty, including planning project-based learning training, supporting the syntegrative education committees, performing training needs analyses for the XEC campus and coordinating, designing and delivering large-scale curriculum and teaching projects at the XEC campus. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Support the implementation, across the institution, of the University’s vision for Learning and Teaching. Delivery of modules on the PGCert programme. Support the development of an institutional CPD framework and ready relevant documentation for approval by the respective committees at XJTLU and the University of Liverpool, as well as accreditation by the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Provide expert and specialist advice and guidance to academic staff in developing excellence in teaching with a primary view of enhancing the student learning experience at XJTLU. Excellent knowledge of current theories and practices in education, particularly with respect to post-secondary teaching and learning (e.g. student-centred active learning, large classes, small groups, team-based learning, blended and online learning, flipped classrooms, transnational education etc.), and educational development. The ability to create and deliver programming (informal and formal stand-alone or embedded activities) for teaching development. Collegiality and a willingness to work with others. The ability to effectively lead and collaborate on cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams, multi-tasking and establishing priorities and meeting deadlines with minimal direction. Knowledge of and experience in Quality Assurance processes including accreditation requirements of professional bodies, and understanding of approaches to quality enhancement. Fluency in English, as English is the official working language of the university. Teaching ability in Biomedical Sciences or Biological Sciences DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE A PhD degree completed in an English and highly international academic environment Postdoctoral experience from highly reputable academic institution University-level teaching experience in English at a highly international environment Research interest in China and Southeast Asia Teaching expertise in Biomedical Sciences CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATION Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labor Laws and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government.
