Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is an international joint venture university founded by Xi’an Jiaotong University (China) and the University of Liverpool (UK) in 2006.
The University currently offers approximately 51 bachelor's, 55 master's, and 17 doctoral programmes in the fields of in the fields of science, engineering, business, finance, architecture, urban planning, language, culture, and all are taught in English except for general and basic courses.
Undergraduate students earn two degrees: an XJTLU degree from the Chinese Ministry of Education and a globally recognised degree from the University of Liverpool. Postgraduate students receive a University of Liverpool degree that is recognised by the Ministry of Education.
XJTLU is located in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), Suzhou. It’s one of the most developed cities in China. Suzhou Industrial Park, China’s equivalent of Silicon Valley and a hub of global innovation, houses a large cluster of Fortune 500 companies, transnational enterprises, and R&D centres, not only providing favourable conditions for XJTLU’s ongoing development but also numerous internship and job opportunities for XJTLU students.

It has recruited highly accomplished faculty (four colleagues among the Top 2% most highly cited researchers according to Stanford University and three among Elsevier’s most highly cited researchers in China) from globally distinguished institutions working in these key disciplines. Although relatively young, the Department has already established a solid reputation, as indicated by the growing number of high-quality publications, increased citations, success in securing external grant awards by its staff (e.g. from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and others) and numerous national and international research collaborations (e.g. with Novartis and Unilever plc). RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES There will be opportunities for Chinese language lecturer to be involved in a range of different types of delivery, such as: Credit-bearing Chinese language modules from beginners to CEFR B2+ level, and Chinese language modules for Specific Purposes, i.e. Business Chinese. Credit-bearing Chinese content modules for degree students majoring in Teaching Chinese as an International Language and China Studies, i.e. Modern Chinese or Classical Chinese. Non-credit bearing Chinese courses, i.e. Practical Chinese Courses and Summer School. Engaging with Continuing Support Chinese language and cultural activities. Mentoring students on their internship and FYP projects. HSK item design and invigilation. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Successful applicants should be educated to Master’s degree level in a relevant discipline (e.g. Teaching Chinese as an International Language or Chinese Language and Literature), and should have at least two years of post-master’s relevant teaching experience, preferably at university level. PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES The School of Robotics is adopting a new higher education model based upon the concept of Syntegrative Education (SE). SE is a new model developed by the University to address an increasingly networked and complex future of work in the 4th Industrial Revolution. Maintain good, sustained, and successful research grants with impact measured by publications in leading journals and other research outputs. Create, develop and manage successful research partnerships with industry, academic institutions, and other external organisations. Support innovative cross-disciplinary research in line with the Entrepreneur College (Taicang) research themes, and become an ambassador for the School for the promotion of cross-boundary research and teaching activities. Engage actively with new educational models and embrace innovative, interactive, technology-enhanced learning, teaching, and assessment approaches; understand and have an entrepreneur and innovative mindset in line with College ethos. Contribute to the school’s teaching development through mentoring and supporting early career academics (Associate Professor and above). Undertake any other appropriate tasks assigned by the Entrepreneur College or University through the Dean of School or College Senior Management Team. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCES A doctoral research (normally PhD) degree in electrical and electronics, mechatronics, intelligent controls, robotics engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, computer vision, mobile robotics, machine learning, data science and analytics, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent professional practice and engagement. Previous experience in coding (C/C++, Python, ROS etc) in robotics-related domains. Self-motivated for innovative teaching. Clear understanding of the philosophy and concept of Syntegrative Education (SE). Demonstrable past teaching/industry experiences or practices aligned with Syntegrative Education (SE). A commitment to Continual Professional Development in all areas of the role as an academic at the university. Ability to work, teach and research in English Strong team-work spirit. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE A good track record of engagement with business and industry. University-level teaching experience. Relevant industry experience. Appropriate research experience, including working with industry, for the corresponding academic position level. Experience in intensive teaching and problem-based learning, and a willingness to be innovative in teaching practices. The center focuses on a tripartite technical system of "Equipment Automation – Operation & Maintenance Intelligence – System Autonomy," aiming to drive profound transformation in industrial manufacturing by breaking through key technologies in smart equipment, industrial software, and system solutions. The center collaborates closely with industrial giants like Hengtong, Haier, and Bond Tech to create a complete value chain from theoretical innovation to industrial application. RESEARCH AREAS Currently, we are seeking candidates from different research areas. The more details can be kindly found as below: 1. Industrial AI Algorithm and Autonomous Decision-Making Systems RESPONSIBILITIES Research and develop autonomous decision-making algorithms for process industries (e.g., chemical, pharmaceutical, materials, energy) or discrete manufacturing (e.g., electronics assembly, automotive, home appliances). Explore the integration of large language models and reinforcement learning for real-time optimization, fault self-recovery, and production scheduling in industrial processes. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES A Ph.D. (obtained or soon to be obtained) in Computer Science, Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Operations Research, or a related field. Solid research background and practical experience in one or more of the following areas: Reinforcement Learning / Deep Reinforcement Learning Fine-tuning and Application of Large Language Models Time-Series Data Prediction and Modeling Intelligent Decision-Making and Optimization Algorithms Strong programming skills (proficient in Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, etc.). Strong intellectual curiosity, ability to solve problems independently, and excellent teamwork spirit. Outstanding written and oral communication skills in both Chinese and English. 2. Industrial Digital Twin and Intelligent Control Systems RESPONSIBILITIES Develop industrial process digital twin models based on the fusion of mechanistic and data-driven approaches. Research advanced process control strategies and deploy them on the center's distributed control systems and edge computing devices. Work closely with industry partners to validate and optimize the developed technologies in real industrial environments. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES A Ph.D. (obtained or soon to be obtained) in Control Science and Engineering, Process Control, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
