The University of Warwick, based on the outskirts of the city of Coventry, England, first opened its doors in 1965.

Academically, the university is known also for its commitment to research. Warwick maintains around 30 academic departments, organised into four faculties: Arts, Medicine, Science and Social Science. In support of this, the university has an extensive library boasting more than 13 kilometers' worth of manuscripts. Smaller campuses are also maintained at satellite sites.

In terms of recreation, Warwick has a number of different student societies providing for a wide range of interests. In addition, the university’s student union is one of the largest in the UK. Many different events are held on campus, such as music concerts as well as visits from guest speakers.

Some of the most famous alumni of Warwick include Conservative politician David Davis, and former Nigerian president Yakubu Gowon.

The project aims to design next-generation supramolecular materials derived from biomass for applications in water stress mitigation, nutrient retention, and soil regeneration. This work directly contributes to water scarcity resilience and climate-smart agriculture. Job Qualifications PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience in sustainable processing of multi-source biomass feedstocks and/or development of biobased/bio-inspired materials. Strong experience in Biopolymers, modification, and supramolecular assembly. Experience in developing biobased hydrogels or hydrated colloidal systems for water retention, soil improvement, or controlled release applications. Experience with biostimulants or eco-friendly soil conditioners is an asset. Hands-on experience with physicochemical characterization techniques such as FTIR, UV–Vis, XRD, DLS, SEM–EDS, TEM, TGA/DSC. Experience with greenhouse or laboratory experiments evaluating water retention, soil hydration, plant germination, or agronomic performance under water stress. Proven capacity to publish peer-reviewed scientific papers and deliver technical reports. Good publication track record in peer-reviewed journals. Strong communication skills in English (written and oral). Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team. Excellent networking ability and organizational skills. Experience in co-supervision and coordination of master/PhD students. Commitment to lab safety and research integrity. Key Responsibilities Conduct original, internationally competitive research on bioinspired materials, biostimulant matrices and water-retentive biobased systems for enhanced water–nutrient coupling. Develop nutrient (N, P)-enriched biostimulant matrices for enhanced water–nutrient coupling and improved plant nutrition. Design, synthesize, and optimize functional materials derived from renewable feedstock (marine and lignocellulosic) for applications in water retention, soil hydration, and nutrient stabilization. Conduct full physicochemical characterization: FTIR, UV–Vis, XRD, DLS, SEM–EDS, TEM, TGA/DSC. Prepare, submit, and publish high-impact peer-reviewed scientific articles, and present research findings at international conferences, workshops, and scientific meetings. Mentor and co-supervise Master’s and PhD students within the framework of research activities. Collaborate with internal and external researchers to reinforce interdisciplinary synergies across water sciences, materials chemistry, and sustainable agriculture. Communicate regularly with the research project team regarding the development, progress, challenges, and outcomes of research activities. Identify and implement areas of improvement within research workflows using integrated and statistical management approaches (DOE, optimization strategies) to strengthen capacity building and scientific rigor. In keeping with its conservatoire status, the School’s philosophy is centred on performance and reflects the unique cultural mix of Hong Kong, with emphasis on both Western and Chinese traditions. The School comprises the Departments of Strings, Keyboard, Voice, Woodwind/Brass/Percussion (‘WBP’), Composition, Chinese Music, Conducting and Cultural Leadership, Academic Studies and Junior Music. The Head of Academic Studies in Music will be a distinguished educator and academic leader, dedicated to shaping the future of music education, academic, and contextual studies within the School of Music. Building on the department’s existing strengths, the Head will work collaboratively with other senior staff to drive forward innovative developments in music education and research. This includes overseeing and enhancing curricula across all programme levels (Junior Music, post-secondary, undergraduate, and postgraduate), promoting interdisciplinary collaborations, and fostering an environment of excellence in teaching and research. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Music, the appointee will provide academic leadership and quality assurance in contextual studies and musical research. The appointee is expected to lead curriculum development, course review, and enhancement of learning, teaching, assessment and feedback across all programmes, provide guidance to faculty, and strengthen the School’s international networks and collaborative projects. Applicants should have: (a) A recognised degree in Music or equivalent qualification (preferably a doctoral degree in music education, contextual studies, or relevant disciplines); (b) A strong professional background and extensive professional experience as a music educator and/or researcher (c) In-depth knowledge of current trends in music education, contextual studies, and performing arts research, with a focus on innovative pedagogical approaches; (d) Internationally recognised standing and a good industry network; (e) An excellent teaching record in conservatoire/university contexts across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  Experience of teaching on pre-college music programmes would be an advantage; (f) A successful track record of leadership and ability within an educational institution or similar performing arts-based organisation, including experience in curriculum design, implementation, and programme development according to established quality assurance frameworks; (g) Solid experience in managing teams and collaborative work in cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary contexts; (h) The ability to advise and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects; (i) Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills; and (j) An excellent command of both written and spoken English. Fluency in Chinese (including Putonghua and Cantonese) is an advantage. TERMS OF APPOINTMENT Appointment will be on a two-year renewable contract, subject to performance and mutual agreement. A gratuity payment equals up to 15% of the total basic salary earned during the contract period may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract period. The amount of gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Academy’s contribution to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, equals 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
