Located in Macao, the University of Macau (UM) is a comprehensive research-oriented public university of international standing, featuring a multicultural campus and a distinctive whole-person education model supported by its faculties and residential colleges. Eighty per cent of its academic staff are from outside Macao. With English as the primary medium of instruction, the university is committed to cultivating innovative and socially responsible graduates who exhibit love for their home country and possess global perspectives and competitiveness.
UM equips students with the specialised knowledge and core competencies to thrive in a rapidly changing world. It offers more than 130 programmes across eight faculties: Arts and Humanities, Business Administration, Education, Health Sciences, Law, Science and Technology, Social Sciences, and the Honours College.
At the undergraduate level, the university adopts a ‘4-in-1’ collaborative education model, which consists of discipline-specific education, general education, research and internship education, and community and peer education. At the postgraduate level, UM emphasises knowledge integration and collaborative innovation, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, nurturing innovative talent, and producing impactful research.
To remain at the forefront of educational and scientific development, UM has introduced a range of forward-looking programmes in recent years, including artificial intelligence, smart power grids, precision medicine, and pharmaceutical sciences. Spanning one square kilometre, UM’s main campus is designed around a people-centred philosophy that fosters an inspiring environment for learning and discovery. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a comprehensive library, the University Hall, the Museum of Art, and extensive sports amenities such as a swimming pool, a sports complex, an archery range, basketball courts, climbing walls, and fitness rooms. A new campus in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin is under construction and scheduled for completion in 2029. It will feature integrated academic, research, residential, and recreational facilities, further strengthening the university’s capacity for teaching, innovation, and global engagement.
