University of Macau

Founded in 1981, the University of Macau (UM) was the predecessor of the private University of East Asia, which was officially renamed University of Macau in 1991 as a public university. Through the years of development, UM has become a leading and the only public comprehensive university in Macao.

Currently, UM ranks:

• 145th in the World
• 34th in Asia

UM relocated to the new campus equipped with a unique residential college system:

• Relocated to a new campus in 2014 with an area of 1.09 square kilometres
• Asia’s largest and most complete collegiate system with ten residential colleges
• Managed by distinguished scholars

UM is dedicated to teaching by offering more than 130 programmes to more than 10,000 students. Some of our programmes are internationally recognized:

• The top 1% in ESI (Essential Sciences Indicators) rankings in 15 subjects, namely Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, Pharmacology & Toxicology,  Clinical Medicine, Psychiatry/Psychology, Biology & Biochemistry, Social Sciences, General, Molecular Biology & Genetics, Agricultural Science, Economics & Business, Environment/Ecology and Geosciences.

UM strives to deliver research excellence with support from the central government, Macao community and our faculty:

• State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine
• State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City
