Your opportunity We are seeking a veterinary clinician with expertise in microbiology and infectious diseases to help shape the next generation of practice-ready veterinarians. The Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Infectious Diseases supports the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed, commencing 2026) and the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology (BVetTech, commenced 2025), programs designed to produce confident graduates ready to contribute to veterinary practice from Day One. This role would suit a specialist or experienced practitioner seeking to influence veterinary education while maintaining strong links to clinical or diagnostic practice. Flexible appointment structures, including part-time arrangements, will be considered. Southern Cross University delivers a distributed clinical training model in partnership with practices, diagnostic laboratories and industry, ensuring teaching remains grounded in contemporary veterinary medicine. You will make an impact by: Designing and delivering clinically relevant microbiology and infectious disease teaching across bacteriology, virology, parasitology, immunology and diagnostic microbiology Integrating foundational science with real world case material to support clinical reasoning, antimicrobial stewardship, biosecurity and infection control Creating engaging, practice-oriented learning experiences including case-based tutorials, laboratory practicals and diagnostic interpretation activities Building strong partnerships with diagnostic laboratories, clinicians and industry to support authentic learning and Work Integrated Learning Contributing to curriculum innovation, accreditation processes and the establishment of Veterinary Infectious Diseases within a new veterinary program What you will bring You’re a veterinary microbiologist or infectious disease clinician who values clinical relevance, professional standards and contemporary diagnostics, and who is motivated to influence the future of the profession through education. To succeed in this role, you will also need: A degree in veterinary science/medicine, preferably eligible for registration in NSW, and advanced qualifications in Veterinary Microbiology or Infectious Diseases (e.g. PhD, Diplomate ACVM/ECVM, Membership/Fellowship ANZCVS), or equivalent professional standing and experience. Formal qualifications in higher education teaching would be viewed favourably Expertise in veterinary microbiology (bacteriology, mycology, virology, parasitology and/or immunology) including direct clinical or diagnostic experience that you can use to connect foundational science to clinical decision-making and contemporary practice in teaching, mentoring or supervising veterinary students or colleagues, or demonstrated capacity and commitment to develop as an educator delivering practical, clinically oriented instruction Capacity to design and deliver innovative curriculum and assessment aligned with good academic practice, evidence-informed design principles and veterinary accreditation standards Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage diverse learners, colleagues, diagnostic laboratories, clinicians and external professional stakeholders Collegiality and cultural fit matter to us.
