Reykjavik University (RU) is a young university with a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching. It is Iceland‘s largest private university with approximately 3500 students. Academic departments are: Department of Engineering, Department of Law, Department of Computer Science, Department of Business, Department of Sport Science, and the Department of Psychology.
RU has an international focus and welcomes international staff, students, and research collaboration. This commitment to international academic participation plays an important part in RU‘s research and teaching success. Gaining constant international recognition is research on drug prevention (Youth in Europe), language technology, sleep, and artificial intelligence, for example. Reykjavik University hosts Iceland’s only AI laboratory, the Centre for Analysis and Design of Intelligent Agents (CADIA), and the newly established Reykjavik University Sleep Institute, funded by EU‘s Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Health, demographic change and wellbeing. The Department of Engineering hosts the innovative Iceland School of Energy through which students become experts in renewable energy.
The greater part of RU‘s master´s programmes are taught entirely in English, as well as several PhD programmes and a number of undergraduate modules.
Reykjavik University sets itself apart from other Icelandic universities through its extensive industry collaboration. Study programmes are designed together with companies in order to ensure their relevance to the rapidly changing areas of engineering, computing, business, and law.
