The Design discipline at the School takes a sustainable and humanistic approach which aims to expand the scope of traditional design into the sociotechnical realms.  The three conceptual pillars constitute: (a) Social Design - collaborative design with communities and the public sector to improve living conditions through critical, systemic and co-designed approaches; (b) Design Economies - entrepreneurial design that enhances service innovation and value creation in the private sector; and (c) Design Making - human-centered and hands-on design investigations in labs, in the practices of making and prototyping via socio-technical means. Department of Architecture PolyU is going to establish the Department of Architecture (ARCH) under the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) with effect from 1 July 2026.  FCE is globally renowned for its excellence in Architecture & Built Environment and Civil & Structural Engineering, both ranked 17th worldwide by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS Subject Ranking) in 2025. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the Department’s vision, building a strong academic team to achieve transformative impact in AI-enhanced and big data driven architectural education and research.
