B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) Limited until: 31.01.2029 Reference no.: 4996 The Institute for Labour and Social Law invites applications for four pre-doctoral assistant positions (employment group B1, in accordance with the collective agreement) to support the research team of Prof. Dr. Erika Kovács, who will assume her position at the Institute on 1 February 2026. Her focus is on European labour law. Your personal sphere of influence: As a predoctoral university assistant, you will conduct your own independent research, be responsible for teaching and examination duties, and provide support in research, organizational, and administrative tasks Your future tasks: You will be actively involved in research, teaching and administration, which means: Collaboration in research and teaching in the field of labour and social security law. We expect you to finalise your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months. You will work on your dissertation and its finalisation as well as other academic work. You will teach courses independently in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. You will be responsible for administrative tasks in research and teaching. This part of your personality: Completed Master’s degree or Diploma in Law Strong expertise in labour and social law, with a particular interest in European labour and social law Above-average academic achievements Excellent written and spoken English skills Proficiency in IT applications, including MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and relevant databases Ability to work effectively in a team. The employment relationship of the university assistant is initially limited to 1.5 years and will be automatically extended to a total of 3 years unless the employer issues a statement of non-renewal within the first 12 months. An extension to a total of 4 years is possible subject to probation and corresponding work progress. The position should ideally be filled as soon as possible (preferably by 1 February 2026). We are recruiting a half-time Research Assistant for Dr. Jeremy Land’s University of Helsinki Rector-funded Project "QuILT: Quantifying Illicit and Licit Trade in the Early Modern Economy " at the University of Helsinki. This project runs until the end of 2026, and the assistantship will last for 10 months. The project seeks to create datasets tracking trade going to and from Stockholm and Amsterdam from 1750-1775. The research assistant will help to build these datasets using sources already collected by the PI and postdoc in the project. We invite applications for a Research Assistant for a 10-month employment contract 15.2.2026-15.12.2026 (or starting as agreed). The selected candidate must be an enrolled bachelor or master student at University of Helsinki. The tasks include: Data entry Various research support tasks for the team members (e.g. proofreading, editing references, and bibliographies) Assisting in identifying additional data for the project. Working hours are flexible and paid by hour. The work is part-time, from 0 to 40 hours per month. The number of weekly hours as well as working hours can be negotiated, so it is possible to combine summer work or traineeships to the position, for example. The salary for the position is EUR 15,97-16,94 e/h, depending on previous work experience.
