The University of Tübingen Eberhard Karls is a respected academic authority in humanities, natural sciences and theology. The institute is situated in one of the traditional German university towns of Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg, which famous for its boat trips and the marvelous architecture of its old town Hölderlin.

The first Count Eberhard of Württemberg supported the university’s foundation in 1477. A century later, its protestant theology department was a key place for the development of the astrologer Johannes Kepler. From then on, the university saw a rapid expansion, which included the establishment of the first Natural Sciences department and the first university hospital in a German higher education institution.

Today, University of Tübingen has 14 schools, which offer 280 courses at all levels from Bachelor, Master and Doctorate. As an integral part of the German excellence initiative, the university remains in the forefront of international academic institutions. Every year, The German Research Foundation funds research conducted as part of the university related to neuroscience, elementary particle physics and nanotechnology.

University of Tübingen maintains close connections with over 150 foreign institutions in over 62 states worldwide. Some of them include the University of Michigan, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and University of St. Andrews. This provides students with the unique opportunity to study abroad for one year, or for foreign students to come to Tubingen and actively engage in scientific research.

Even though the University of Tübingen cannot offer a real campus life experience, the small city of Tubingen has a calendar full of events such as concerts staging famous singers and orchestras. The college also organises courses in photography, journalism and creative writing giving the chance for students to develop their skills and broaden their artistic horizons.

The universities most famous alumni include the neuropathologist Alois Alzheimer, and former EU commisioner Martin Bangemann.

Schemes of Service: Professional Officers Division: Professional Officers Employment Type: Fixed Term Job Purpose Innovation-as-a-Service Centre for Sustainability Innovation (IaaS CSI) is an ecosystem-level platform helmed by SIT to support innovation projects (from POC test-bedding to implementation) and talent development, thus enabling agencies and enterprises to accelerate innovation for the green economy. IaaS CSI aims to champion innovation within Singapore innovation ecosystem by bringing together capabilities from Universities, Polytechnics, ITE, Research Institutes, Industry. It is supported by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and staffed by Professional Officers/RE/RF who will link the industry to the research performers. The Professional Officer (Sustainability for Chemical Processes). POs, with more than 15 years of industry experience, would enhance the performance outcomes of the IaaS CSI. The PO will work with industry partners to co-create commercially viable solutions by co-ideating and co-executing innovation projects. These projects will help the industries and businesses move up the value chain. While working on these projects, the PO will have the opportunity to leverage or be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands. The success of these initiatives will bring about deeper collaboration with key industry stakeholders that will translate industry engagement into more innovation projects with SIT and/or the greater innovation ecosystem at large. The PO for Centre for Sustainability Innovation will play a pivotal role in advancing sustainability-focused research and projects that are relevant to the food and chemicals domain. Collaborating closely with faculty, industry partners, researchers, and students, the PO will co-create impactful, practical, and commercially viable solutions that address critical sustainability challenges, encompassing environmental, social, and economic dimensions. Job Requirements A degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Food Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Engineering with sustainability training, or a related field. A Master’s or PhD is preferred. At least 15 years of relevant industry experience, with a proven track record in sustainability innovation and ESG integration. Representation on National committees e.g., Standards Organisation or Industry Association will be key for industry networks and an added advantage Strong knowledge of environmental technologies, resource management, and sustainable business practices. Familiarity with relevant sustainability certifications and standards, such as ISO 14044, etc. Experience in life cycle analysis, carbon accounting, ESG reporting, and sustainability metrics. Our research staff have the opportunity to develop industry-relevant applied research capabilities while contributing to impactful projects that address real-world operational needs. We are seeking a Research Engineer to join an applied research project focused on the development of an embodied AI robotic system for urban infrastructure inspection and maintenance. The project involves the design, integration, and validation of robotic mechanisms, sensing systems, and automated workflows for outdoor infrastructure maintenance applications.The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary research team and industry partners to investigate, prototype, test, and implement practical robotic solutions that can operate in real-world environments and support more efficient, safe, and scalable infrastructure maintenance. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and integrate customised mechanical mechanisms for robotic systems, including robotic end-effectors, grippers, tool-changing interfaces, material handling systems, and task-specific automation modules. Develop 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical documentation using SolidWorks. Perform mechanical design analysis and engineering calculations, including load estimation, actuator sizing, structural integrity, tolerance analysis, and vibration/shock mitigation. Ensure mechanical designs are compatible with robotic arms, mobile platforms, sensors, and mechatronic systems, considering payload, reachability, safety, manufacturability, and maintainability. Build, assemble, and commission mechanical prototypes and experimental robotic systems. Source and evaluate commercial components, and work with vendors, fabricators, and contractors to support fabrication and assembly. Support field deployments and technology demonstrations with industry partners. Prepare technical reports, design documentation, test reports, risk assessments, and project deliverables. To liaise and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Requirements Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related discipline. Strong hands-on experience in mechanical design, prototyping, fabrication, and system integration. Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling, assembly design, and engineering documentation. Good understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering analysis. Experience working with robotic systems, sensors, actuators, or mechatronic systems is advantageous.
