Boston University is located in the heart of what many view as the world’s greatest university city. With nearly 35,000 undergraduate and graduate students from more than 130 countries, it is one of the largest universities in the greater Boston area, which is home to more than 100 higher education institutions. It has around 10,000 faculty and staff, 17 schools and colleges and 300 fields of study located across three campuses and numerous international programmes, with facilities concentrated mainly on its impressive Charles River campus. Around 75 per cent of undergraduates at Boston University live in student housing in and around campus, which contain 17 schools and colleges, 21 libraries and 450 active student societies. Sport is a major part of college life, with around 7,000 students associated with sporting clubs and societies and more than 6,500 people using its fitness and recreation facilities each day. Culture is also a strong feature, with more than 500 concerts and performances, and in excess of 50 exhibitions, taking place on campus annually. As a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, Boston University is recognized as a leading global research institution, and received $574.1 million in sponsored research awards in FY2020. Arguably its most famous graduate is the civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., who took his PhD studies at Boston University in the 1950s. Other notable alumni have made their mark in worlds of politics, science, entertainment, sport, journalism, law, academia, business and music. Academy Award winners Geena Davis, Marisa Tomei and Julianne Moore attended the university, as did the notorious radio DJ Howard Stern, Fox News presenter Bill O’Reilly and Keith B. Alexander, a four-star general and director of the National Security Agency. Several Nobel laureates have been connected to the university. Novelist Saul Bellow taught literature at Boston University and Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel was a professor of the humanities. Former Boston University scientists Osamu Shimomura (Nobel Prize in Chemistry), Sheldon Lee Glashow and Daniel C. Tsui , a research professor from 2011-2013, received the Nobel Prize for Physics, while Dr King won the Peace Prize in 1964. Two US poet laureates have also taught at Boston – Robert Lowell and Robert Pinsky – as did Derek Walcott, a Nobel laureate in literature. Boston is also one of the US’s most international universities, with more than 11,000 international students enrolled on its courses in total. It has almost 80 study abroad programmes based in London, Paris and 25 other cities, and it also runs programmes in Los Angeles and Washington. It also runs almost 200 alumni abroad associations and operates more than 400 global initiatives, such as a project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to fight infant mortality in Zambia.

Job/Project description: The AGBS at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University seeks a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join our academic institution as a postdoctoral research staff member with skill in Agronomy and Soil Microbiology. The successful candidate will contribute to our institution's commitment to excellence in research and innovation in Agronomy and Soil Microbiology, mainly by conducting innovative research that allows us: (i) to characterize soil microbiome from African soils and (ii) participate in field surveys to generate samples for DNA extraction, amplicon, and shotgun sequencing tools. (iii) isolate and characterise microorganisms of agronomic interest, using phenotypic markers and molecular markers, and propose recommendations, (IV) conduct greenhouse assays to validate their benefits and develop recommendations.  Area of specialization: soil microbiome analysis, general microbiology, Molecular Biology, Agronomy and, Sequence dat analysis and R coding skills Main responsibilities: The selected candidate will be expected to: Conduct a field survey from farmer fields to obtain samples, and prepare a map of sampled areas within the project mandate, considering the landscape, field plots, and on-farm approaches.  Prepare soil for physico-chemical property measurements  Isolate beneficial microbial and conduct greenhouse and field assays to validate their benefits Analyses shotgun and amplicon data sequences from the project and reports. Prepare high draft quality manuscripts for submission Mentor master students and PhDs Education, qualifications, and experience Applicants must have earned a doctorate in Agronomy, Soil Microbiology, or Soil Sciences with hands-on experience in Bioinformatics tools  Strong knowledge in implementing statistics to analyse data from field studies, amplicon, shotgun, and whole sequences. Demonstrated experience in multidisciplinary research in the above research area. High-quality publications in relevant scientific journals demonstrate a strong record of research accomplishments. Administrative: Collaborate with academic and administrative units to support the effective design, delivery, and continuous improvement of academic programs and student services. Contribute to curriculum coordination and program alignment across courses and disciplines, ensuring a coherent and high-quality student learning experience in the department of Business and Foreign Languages. Participate in institutional governance through active involvement in committees and working groups, contributing to strategic planning, policy development, and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with institutional policies, quality assurance processes, and accreditation requirements, including timely completion of administrative tasks and reporting. Contribute to cross-functional and cross-departmental initiatives in collaboration with key university units (e.g., Student Recruitment, Admissions, Library Services, and IT) to support institutional effectiveness, operational efficiency, and the overall student experience. Policies and Procedures: Apply and adhere to institutional policies, procedures, and regulations, ensuring consistency, compliance, and accountability in all activities. Maintain awareness of academic, ethical, and regulatory requirements, including quality assurance and data protection standards. Contribute to the review and improvement of policies and processes where appropriate. Related Assignments: Perform other related duties or assignments as directed by the Line Manager. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: PhD is mandatory (granted by Gov. body when available from home-country, CNU approval is mandatory if qualification was obtained in France) in Business, Management, International Business, or a related field from a recognized institution. Minimum Experience: Five (5) years of teaching and research experience in higher education, including doctoral-level research experience. Job-Specific Skills: Strong university-level teaching skills, with demonstrated ability to deliver engaging, student-centered learning experiences. Expertise in innovative pedagogical approaches (e.g., experiential learning, project-based learning, research-informed teaching) and familiarity with digital learning technologies and platforms Active research agenda with a record of peer-reviewed publications in reputable academic journals and/or conference proceedings. Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office) and familiarity with learning management systems and online teaching platforms. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent and collaborative research, with experience or strong potential in securing external research funding. Engagement in international research networks and contribution to the visibility of the institution through scholarly activities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders. Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. High level of adaptability, flexibility, and cultural awareness in diverse and international settings. Strong ability and willingness to adapt to the demands of a dynamic and international academic environment, effectively managing change and complexity Fluency in English and French is required. Knowledge of Arabic or additional languages is considered an asset, depending on departmental needs
