Classification: Academic Level A or B Salary Package: $87,135 - $134,507 per annum plus 17% superannuation Terms: Full-time, fixed term (up to 2 years) Position Description and Selection Criteria: Postdoctoral Fellow  Position overview  The Mathematical Sciences Institute is seeking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher at Level A or B. This position is funded by an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery project awarded to Anthony Licata, Anand Deopurkar, and Asilata Bapat. The primary aim of the position is to carry out the research programme proposed for the Discovery project. This will be done in collaboration with the three chief investigators (named above) and a range of Australian and international collaborators. The project centres around the study of Bridgeland stability conditions on triangulated categories. The research aims to answer fundamental questions about the topology of the space of stability conditions, using a combination of techniques from representation theory, group theory, algebraic geometry, combinatorics, and other fields of mathematics. The level of this appointment, Academic Level A or B, will be determined by the appointee’s level of experience and expertise. Applicants are expected to have an outstanding record in research relative to opportunity, in a field directly relevant to the project mentioned above. About the opportunity The Lesslie Postdoctoral Fellowship has been established in honour of Dr Robert Lesslie, recognising his enduring legacy and pioneering contributions to landscape science, environmental conservation and natural resource management. The Fellowship reflects Dr Lesslie’s lifelong commitment to evidence-based policy, environmental stewardship and practical solutions. The inaugural Lesslie Postdoctoral Fellow will focus on land and cultural resource management in partnership with Indigenous communities and organisations, delivering tangible benefits for Country and developing practical, science-based tools for environmental stewardship. Applicants may demonstrate eligibility through a PhD in a relevant field or through equivalent professional experience with sustained applied impact. While a research-intensive position, the Fellow will also contribute to education and engagement across the School and College, and participate in the intellectual life of the University. The role includes an annual research allocation of up to $60,000, providing support for fieldwork, collaboration, student supervision and the development of high-impact research outputs and partnerships. The Position The position is located at Siding Spring Observatory (SSO), which is one of two key sites for the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) in Australia. The site sits at the summit of Mt Woorut, NSW, and is set within the stunning National Heritage Listed Warrumbungle National Park, around 30 kilometres from the town of Coonabarabran, NSW. The Night Assistant will operate the Anglo-Australian Telescope at night and is responsible for the safety of the Observers present and the safe operation of the telescope itself. The Night Assistant will provide technical support, fault finding and reporting and will assist in the operation of the Instrumentation and other systems such as the automated 2.3m telescope. The role consists of seven night long night shifts, working from sunset to sunrise. Nine such shifts will be scheduled for each twelve months of employment. Accommodation in the ANU Lodge at Siding Spring is provided for each shift if required. There is no requirement for regular daytime attendance at Siding Spring in between the scheduled night shifts.
