Department of Building and Real Estate Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Technology / Sustainability / Architecture (Ref. 251117017) The Department of Building and Real Estate is one of the constituent departments of the Faculty of Construction and Environment. The Department offers a full range of programmes leading to the awards of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, Master of Science and Bachelor of Science. It has an undergraduate student body of over 600 full-time students and a postgraduate student body of over 300. The Department currently has a total of 30 full-time academic / teaching staff, 20 technical and administrative staff and over 100 research personnel. The Department is looking for enthusiastic, established and suitably qualified person with a PhD degree to join the Department to take part in a number of teaching and research activities. Duties The appointee will be required to: (a)    conduct research in related areas and contribute to the development of the Department’s strategic research area of technology / sustainability / architecture; (b)    initiate, lead and participate in scholarly research in his/her area of expertise and be active in research leading to quality journal publications and in bidding for external research grants and projects; (c)    be responsible for developing externally-funded research programme by supervising / coaching students at bachelor / master / PhD / doctoral degree level; (d)    contribute to the success of the Department by initiating new internal and external collaborations and proactive participation; (e)    undertake teaching duties in the relevant subject areas at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; (f)     participate in programme / curriculum planning, development and administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;  (g)    mentor and nurture the next generation of scholars and researchers;  (h)    undertake relevant administrative duties; and (i)     perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his/her delegates. Qualifications Applicants should: (a)    have a PhD degree in Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Technology or a closely related field, with a focus on sustainable construction or related areas; (b)    have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and academic advising; (c)    have a proven record in research and scholarship achievement; (d)    possess effective classroom teaching skills and good interpersonal skills; (e)    have experience in acquiring external research funding, including national, international funding bodies and industries; and (f)     have excellent communication, organisation, leadership and strong cooperation skills, and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team. Hong Kong Branch of National Engineering Research Center for Steel Construction The Hong Kong Branch of National Engineering Research Center for Steel Construction (CNERC-Steel) was established at PolyU by the State Ministry of Science and Technology in October 2015.  It is established to promote sustainable infrastructure development through effective use of constructional steel materials and modern technology in structural engineering. The core objectives of the CNERC-Steel are: (i) To establish a high level technological platform to enable effective design and construction of modern building and civil engineering structures to promote sustainable infrastructure development in Hong Kong; and (ii) To advance technological capabilities of the Hong Kong Construction Industry in design and construction of super high-rise buildings, long-span bridges and buildings of large enclosure using high performance materials in Hong Kong and overseas. The CNERC-Steel promotes technological developments and internationalisation of the steel construction industry in both Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland.  It is actively engaged with international as well as national exchanges in research and development of steel construction. The University is now inviting both internal and external applications and nominations for the post of the Director of CNERC-Steel. The successful candidate will be appointed Chair Professor/Professor normally on regular terms of appointment (equivalent to tenured professorship), commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience, and will hold the concurrent directorship appointment. The concurrent directorship appointment is usually for a term of three years on a renewable basis. Job Functions The position calls for a visionary academic leader with responsibilities of ensuring the smooth and successful operation and sustainable development of the Research Centre. DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED MATHEMATICS Research Assistant Professor in Optimization and Operations Research / Statistics and Data Science / Financial Mathematics / Engineering and Computational Mathematics / Mathematical Science (three posts) (Ref. 251010011) The Department of Applied Mathematics (AMA) is one of the constituent departments of the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences. Apart from making a significant contribution to most of other academic programmes of the University by providing service teaching, the Department also offers master programmes in Applied Mathematics for Science and Technology, Operational Research and Risk Analysis and Quantitative Finance and FinTech. Starting from 2025/26 academic year, the Department offers a new Bachelor Scheme in Applied Mathematics and Finance Analytics and Fast-track Integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programmes and will launch a new master programme, MSc in Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence Technology in 2026/27. Members of the Department have expertise in applied optimization and optimal control, engineering computation, operational research, management science and applied statistics, FinTech, data science and machine learning. Department of Building and Real Estate Professor in Architectural Engineering / Building Engineering (Ref. 251117016) The Department of Building and Real Estate is one of the constituent departments of the Faculty of Construction and Environment. The Department offers a full range of programmes leading to the awards of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, Master of Science and Bachelor of Science. It has an undergraduate student body of over 600 full-time students and a postgraduate student body of over 300. The Department currently has a total of 30 full-time academic / teaching staff, 20 technical and administrative staff and over 100 research personnel. Duties The appointee will be required to: (a)    conduct research in related areas and contribute to the development of the Department’s strategic research area of sustainable building development / energy-efficient building environment and materials / construction engineering / construction robotics and human robot collaboration / construction digitalisation; (b)    initiate, lead and participate in scholarly research in his/her area of expertise and be active in research leading to quality journal publications and in bidding for external research grants and projects; (c)    be responsible for developing externally-funded research programme by supervising / coaching students at bachelor / master / PhD / doctoral degree level; (d)    contribute to the success of the Department by initiating new internal and external collaborations and proactive participation; (e)    undertake teaching duties in the relevant subject areas at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; (f)     participate in programme / curriculum planning, development and administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;  (g)    mentor and nurture the next generation of scholars and researchers;  (h)    undertake relevant administrative duties; and (i)     perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his/her delegates. Qualifications Applicants should: (a)    have a PhD in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Building Science, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Construction Engineering or a closely related field, with a focus on sustainable buildings, construction robotics, digitalisation or related areas; (b)    have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and academic advising; (c)    have a proven record in research and scholarship achievement; (d)    possess effective classroom teaching skills and good interpersonal skills; (e)    have experience in acquiring external research funding, including national, international funding bodies and industries; and (f)     have excellent communication, organisation, leadership and strong cooperation skills, and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
