Transparent coat points way to slimline TV

ULTRA-THIN televisions and computer monitors may soon be within reach of ordinary consumers, thanks to Kingston University researchers. The team has found a chemical way to put transparent electrically conductive coatings on a wide range of materials. The process could cut the cost of producing giant, flat wall-hanging televisions. Final-year PhD student Maria Sugrue is primarily responsible for the development.

Her work was recognised when she and 24 other young researchers from around the country were chosen to present details of their research at a reception in the House of Commons organised by Chemistry Research for Britain. Her project, as part of the university's materials research group, was funded by the Defence Evaluation Research Agency.
