On the move...

* Lancaster University has appointed James Wilsdon , head of science and innovation at Demos, senior research fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies; he will divide his time between Demos and the university.

* Teesside University has appointed Helen Caswell marketing manager. Formerly at Hartlepool College, she has also worked in the private sector and for housing developer Elliotts.

* Napier University has appointed Morag Prowse as dean of the faculty of health, life and social sciences; she is associate dean (nursing) and head of the school of nursing and community studies at Plymouth University

* Leeds University has appointed: Vassili Toropov of Altair Engineering a professor in aerospace and structural engineering, a joint appointment in the schools of civil and mechanical engineering; Tom Brown , Richard and Janice Johnston professor of orthopaedic biomechanics at Iowa University, will spend a six-month secondment at the university's Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering.

* The University of the West of England has appointed Stephen Hagen , director of the Mercia Institute of Enterprise at Warwick University, director of the Centre for Research, Innovation and Graduate Studies. Colin Fudge , professor and pro vice-chancellor at the UWE, has been appointed chair of the international expert panel on sustainable development and climate research of the four Swedish Research Councils.
