Abner Weiss, incoming rabbi of the Western Marble Arch Synagogue in London, has been appointed principal of the London School of Jewish Studies.

Timothy Williamson, professor of logic and metaphysics at the University of Edinburgh, has been appointed to the Wykeham professorship of logic at the University of Oxford and a fellow of New College. He will replace David Wiggins, who retires in October.

Merlin Stone, former professor of marketing at the University of Surrey, has been appointed IBM professor of relationship marketing at the Bristol Business School, University of the West of England.

Susan Hurley, professor in the department of politics and international studies at the University of Warwick, is to become a fellow of All Souls, Oxford from October.

Sir Anthony Greener, vice-chairman of the University for Industry and chairman of Diageo plc has been appointed UfI chairman. He succeeds Lord Dearing. Ian Johnston, principal and vice-chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University, becomes UfI vice-chairman.
