Ivy League gets first black president
Brown University’s appointment of a black woman as its new president has been welcomed by black scholars in the United States. Ruth J. Simmons, currently the head of Smith College, is the first woman to head Brown and the first black president of an Ivy League university.
Uruguayans demand more education funding
Over 10,000 academics, students and administrative staff marched through Montevideo, the Uruguayan capital, yesterday in a demonstration to demand a larger portion of gross national product to be invested in universities.
