Higher education appointments

University of Strathclyde

Ian Smith
will succeed Douglas Weir as dean of the faculty of education.

Leslie Sheldon , director of the English language teaching division at the University of Strathclyde, has been appointed visiting professor at the Second Language Institute of the University of Ottawa, 2001-2002.


University of Leeds

Linda Mortimer Pine
, formerly senior personnel manager at the University of Leicester, has been appointed deputy director of human resources;

John Binns , former superintendent with West Yorkshire Police, will succeed George Blanchflower as head of security and support services;

Andrew Parkinson , has been appointed to the new post of academic registrar, managing the central student office, research degrees and scholarships office and the academic support unit.


Hong Kong University School of Science and Technology

Yuk-Shee Chan
, founding dean of the business school has also been appointed acting vice-president for academic affairs.

Chris Westland
currently head of dept. of information and systems management has been promoted to a professorship.

Songnian Chen
, and Son Ku Kim have both been awarded the title associate professor of economics.

Laurence Franklin
has been named adjunct professor of finance.

Fletcher Orlan Lee
has been appointed adjunct associate professor in the law programme.

Susheng Wang
will be promoted to associate professor of economics from July 1, 2001.

Business school professorial appointments :

K.C. Chan , associate dean and head of finance is acting dean of the school;

Gary Biddle , head of accounting has been appointed associate dean;

John Wei has taken up headship of the department of finance.
