Abertay Dundee University has appointed Liz Wilson , director of nursing for the primary care division of the National Health Service in Tayside, visiting professor of nursing.

Exeter University has appointed: Andreas Langer , visiting professor at the Graduate School of Mathematics at Nagoya University in Japan, to a chair in pure mathematics; Gerald Richter , of the department of organic chemistry and biochemistry at the Technical University of Munich, to a chair in molecular sciences; Stephen Brown , former professor at the School of Management, Bath University, to a chair inmanagement; Nicholas Kaye , former professor in drama at Manchester University, to a chair in drama; and Michael Mangan , professor and head of the School of English and Performance Studies at De Montfort University, to a chair in drama.

Alastair Campbell , professor of ethics in medicine at Bristol University's School of Medicine and director of the Centre for Ethics in Medicine, has been appointed chair of the UK Biobank Ethics and Governance Council. Full membership will be announced in October.

The General Council of Aberdeen University has elected Joseph Leiper , recently retired headteacher of Oldmachar Academy; and Robert Ruddiman, head of oil and gas at Ledingham Chalmers, to serve as general council assessors to the university's court for four years, from October 1.

Tim Young , former trading manager at the Bank of England, has been appointed to the Norwich Union lectureship in financial economics at York University.
