Mahmoud Ezzamel, Price Waterhouse professor of accounting and finance at University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, professor of accounting and finance; Ronald Doney, reader in mathematical statistics, professor of probability theory; John Wearden, reader in psychology, promotional chair of psychology; Alan Jackson, senior lecturer in diagnostic radiology, professor of neuroradiology; Grevel Lindop, reader in English literature, professor of romantic and early Victorian studies;

David Holden, senior lecturer in the department of infectious diseases and bacteriology, has been appointed professor of molecular microbiology. Dorian Haskard, professor of rheumatology, has been appointed to the Sir John McMichael chair of cardiovascular medicine. Alexander McNeish, director of the Medical Research Council's Clinical Sciences Centre, has been awarded the personal chair of professor of clinical science from November 1 1995.
