American Society of Limnology & Oceanography

The 1996 Raymond L. Lindeman award for the most outstanding paper in English on an aspect of aquatic science went to Chris Freeman, school of biological sciences, University of Wales, Bangor.

Political Studies Association of the UK

Prizes in honour of Bernard Crick: an open category award was presented to Elizabeth Bomberg and the prize for young teachers to Laura Cleary, both of the University of Stirling.

Society of Automotive Engineers

The United States-based society presented its Arch T. Colwell Merit Award to the following members of staff at Imperial College, London: C. Arcoumanis, J. Whitelaw and A. Nagwaney.

Royal Historical Society

Steve Hindle, a research fellow in the department of history at the University of Warwick was awarded the Alexander Prize for his essay entitled "The Problem of Pauper Marriage in 17th Century England".

ACCA/BAA

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the British Accounting Association presented Bob Parker, professor of accounting at the University of Exeter, with its awarf for Distinguished Academic of the Year.
