Queen's University, Belfast

Brian Hogg, professor and provost of the college of engineering at Queen's University, Belfast, has been elected to the board of the Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research for four years.

Bell College of Technology

Ken MacCallum, professor and head of design, manufacture and engineering management at the University of Strathclyde will succeed John Reid as principal of the college in April.

Lancaster University

Graham Rand, a senior lecturer in the department of management science, has been elected vice president of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies for the period 1998-2000. He was editor of IFORS journal.

Department for Education and Employment

Anne Wright, vice chancellor and chief executive of the University of Sunderland, has been appointed to the Equal Opportunities Commission for three years. Dr Wright is also a member of the Opportunity 2000 National Target Team, and chair of the commission on University Career Opportunity.
