University of Abertay Dundee

Neil Watson, former senior manager with the North of Scotland Water Authority, has been appointed business development manager for the wastewater technology centre.

University of Central England

Nora Kennally, who has just graduated with a masters degree from the school, has been appointed jeweller-in-residence at Birmingham School of Jewellery.

University of Surrey

Bob Gunn, former general manager of finance for BP Chemicals, has been appointed director of planning.

University of Wales, Cardiff

Malcolm Parry, architect, broadcaster and environmentalist, has been appointed head of the Welsh School of Architecture, succeeding Richard Silverman.

Westhill College of Higher Education

John Briggs, head of the department of history at the University of Keele, has been appointed principal of the college, succeeding Jack Priestly on September 1.

Royal Northern College of Music

Patrick McGuigan, acting head, head of school of vocal studies; Basil Barker, acting manager, recording manager; John Reynolds, tutor, senior tutor in woodwind.

Royal Society of Edinburgh

Peter Wilson, professor emeritus at the University of Edinburgh, has succeeded Bruce Proudfoot as general secretary of the society.
