OFFICE OF FACULTY OF HUMANITIES The Faculty of Humanities (FH) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is dedicated to creating synergies among language, communication, history, culture, and technology in education and research.  The Faculty comprises four constituent academic units: Department of Chinese History and Culture, Department of English and Communication, Department of Language Science and Technology and the new Division of Artificial Intelligence and the Humanities which will be established with effect from 1 January 2026. The Faculty is a leading tertiary education provider in Asia in language science, language technology, Chinese-English bilingual studies and translation, intercultural communication, and cultural and historical studies of China.  The Faculty also excels in areas such as speech therapy, language neuroscience, AI and computational studies, and health communication. Dean of Faculty of Humanities (Ref. 251208018-IE) The University is now inviting applications and nominations for the post of Dean of Faculty of Humanities. The successful candidate should be qualified for appointment as Chair Professor, normally on regular terms in one of the constituent academic units of the Faculty, and will hold the Deanship on a concurrent basis. The Deanship appointment is normally for an aggregate period of six years in two three-year terms of office, but with possibility of further extension dependent on individual merits and achievements. Department of Chinese History and Culture The Department of Chinese History and Culture is an academic department within the Faculty of Humanities.  Its mission is to offer high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that provide interdisciplinary training in the study of Chinese history and culture.  Currently, the Department offers PhD and MPhil programmes, a taught-master degree programme, a major degree programme in Chinese History and Culture, two minor degree programmes in Chinese History and Culture and History of Science and Technology in China, respectively, and university-wide general education courses. The Department conducts quality research in topics related to Chinese history and Chinese culture, in a variety of broadly defined areas. The media of instruction are English and Putonghua. Duties The appointees will be required to: (a)   initiate, lead and participate in scholarly research in their areas of expertise and be active in research leading to quality journal publications and in bidding for external research grants and applied research projects; (b)   conduct research in related areas and contribute to the development of the School’s research strengths; (c)   supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and theses; (d)   undertake teaching duties at various levels in the area of finance; (e)   engage in programme/curriculum planning, development and administration; and (f)   perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or her delegates. Qualifications Applicants should have: (a)   a PhD degree in a related discipline; (b)   a proven record in research and scholarships; (c)   solid experience in teaching and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research; and (d)   excellent communication skills and the ability to use English as the medium of instruction. Conditions of Service A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
