Brussels, 09 Jan 2006

The Austrian Academy of Sciences and Academia Europaea will jointly host a workshop entitled 'European science: a modern interpretation of basic and applied research' in Vienna on 26 and January.

The event is designed to revisit and consider concepts of research and the research process in the context of recent changes in the research landscape, such as increasing multidisciplinarity, a growing expectation for tangible outputs, increased political accountability for public research expenditure, and the advent of the European Research Area.

Top level speakers from public administration, academia and industry will address issues such as 'is there a European research paradigm?', 'European research perspectives in the new countries of the EU', and 'who owns science?'
