Astronomer and stellar astrophysicist Janet Drew has swapped Imperial College, London, for Hertfordshire University this month, taking up a chair in its Centre for Astrophysics Research.
Professor Drew, who is leading two international surveys of the Milky Way, will join four professors and about 50 other research staff.
"Exploring hot young stars" is listed as a key interest on her website.
"The more massive a star is, the rarer and the hotter it is," she said. "Because of this, studies of young, cool low-mass stars are much more advanced than studies of young, hot higher-mass stars."
A former lecturer at St Hilda's College, Oxford, she is exploring the differences between high and low-mass star formation.
Professor Drew studies outflow - matter that is lost during star formation - by working from infrared data and using radio observations and optical techniques.
