The John Innes Centre has submitted a planning application for a £25 million building for genomics research at its Norwich Research Park base. The existing genome centre is overcrowded.

Mary Rose divers reunited in Portsmouth
More than 200 divers who helped raise the Mary Rose were being reunited as part of celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the raising of King Henry VIII's flagship in Portsmouth. Margaret Rule - who was archaeological director of the project at the time - opened a display at the ship's new home, The Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth.

£6.5m Ulster learning resource centre opens
Carmel Hanna, Northern Ireland's minister for employment and learning, has opened Ulster University's £6.5 million Sir Derek Birley learning resource centre commemorating its first vice-chancellor. The centre, the most advanced of its kind in Ireland, integrates conventional library services and computer technology with 1,200 study spaces, of which 900 have network connections.
Artist transforms St Andrews student diner
Fife artist Jack Vettriano has made a substantial donation towards transforming a St Andrews University student diner dating back to 1891. The donation follows Mr Vettriano's involvement as patron and honorary artistic director of the university's charities campaign fashion show. The diner reopens today after a year-long refurbishment.
