Exam results improve with fatherly input
Children with fathers involved in their upbringing are more successful in exams and less likely to get a criminal record, a conference in Oxford is to hear this week. Charlie Lewis, from Lancaster University, has produced a study for the conference organised by Fathers Direct. Leading experts will decide on policies to promote the role of fathers which will be presented to the United Nations next year.
Learndirect calculates time-wasting at work
Firms are losing a staggering £158 billion a year through time being wasted by workers, according to learndirect, the government's training network. Office staff spend almost three hours a day chasing colleagues for overdue information, sifting through trivia on the internet or attending meetings that last longer than necessary, research found.
Abertay, Dundee, opens psychology centre
The University of Abertay Dundee today opened a £280,000 state-of-the-art centre for psychology. Gordon Hewitt, chairman of Abertay's court, said: "It will bring psychologists and their laboratories into close proximity with other top-class researchers from the fields of biology, physics, engineering, and computer science, and will act as a catalyst in the development of even more new and exciting collaborations."
