Wales tops British child poverty league
Wales has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies and the worst alcohol and drugs problems among children in the UK, according to a new report published today. Research for Save the Children by the University of York also showed that the principality has the highest overall rate of child poverty in Great Britain.
100th planet found 100 light years away
Astronomers today announced the discovery of the 100th planet known to inhabit another solar system. Hugh Jones of Liverpool John Moores University led the international team that found the new world orbiting the star Tau 1 Gruis. The star is 100 light years from Earth in the southern constellation Grus, "The Crane".
Atlas of Flora unveiled at Kew
The New Atlas of British and Irish Flora, which charts the changing distribution of flowering plants and ferns, was today unveiled at Kew Gardens by environment secretary Margaret Beckett.
