Report calls for online teaching resources
Teachers and lecturers should have access to a new "College Online" offering learning resources, according to the report of the Post 16 e-Learning Strategy Taskforce. College Online would be an extension of Curriculum Online offering resources to improve teaching techniques. The report also calls for information and communication technology to be designated as a basic skill, alongside literacy and numeracy, for 16 to 18-year olds by 2010.
Minister visits first summer youth academy
School standards minister David Miliband was today visiting the first summer school of the new National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth. He was seeing a pilot project at the University of Warwick designed to encourage and support 100 of Britain’s brightest young people.
Staffordshire to study drawing techniques
Research that could have far-reaching implications for the teaching of art in schools is to be carried out at Staffordshire University. The Leverhulme Trust has awarded the university £31,723 for a study into the way children's drawing techniques develop as they grow up.
Overseas students immersed in Northern Ireland
Almost 60 overseas students at a summer school coordinated by Queen's University's Institute for Irish Studies last night had roundtable talks with politicians in the Northern Ireland assembly at Stormont. The three-week immersion course covers the province's history, culture and politics.
