Training will cure prescribing errors, say experts
Junior doctors should receive more training to prevent mistakes being made when prescribing medicines, experts said today. Bryony Dean and colleagues at the University of London’s School of Pharmacy spoke to hospital staff who had made 44 potentially serious prescribing errors. Risk factors associated with mistakes included work environment, workload, physical and mental well-being, and lack of knowledge.
Anti-cancer innovator wins £300,000 prize
A researcher who has discovered a molecular switch that could lead to the creation of an anti-cancer drug is to receive a prestigious award today. Richard Treisman, director of Cancer Research UK’s London Research Institute, will be presented with a personal award of £46,000 and a £250,000 sum for his laboratory as part of the Louis-Jeantet Prize at a ceremony in Geneva.
