MPs criticise quality of school science
School science must be revamped to become more appealing, MPs said today. The Commons' select committee on science and technology criticised the teaching of school science in its report on science education from 14 to 19 years. Lobby group Save British Science welcomed the report. Director Peter Cotgreave said young people did not realise how employable having science qualifications made them.

Plagiarism v-c quits Monash
The Australian vice-chancellor at the centre of a row over plagiarism is standing down with immediate effect. David Robinson, vice-chancellor of Monash University, flew back from London at short notice to discuss his position with chancellor Jerry Ellis. Mr Ellis then announced that Professor Robinson would be leaving the university with immediate effect by mutual consent.
