A Centre for Modern Studies has been launched at the University of York. The centre, which will be housed in the new Berrick Saul Building once construction is completed, will bring together academics from different disciplines who share research interests from 1850 to the present day. Its initial research will focus on three areas - globalisation, innovation and narrative - and it will host lectures, symposiums and conferences. A masters degree in the subject is also being developed. David Peters Corbett, director of the centre, said: "Academics looking at this period might do so from an artistic, historical or literary perspective, but they share common themes. Bringing them together will open up exciting new avenues for research."
