University of York - Importance of being breastfed

Breastfeeding is an important public health issue but it is ignored or dismissed by many, a leading expert in the field has argued as part of a lecture series at the University of York. Mary Renfrew gave the lecture, entitled "The Paradox of Breastfeeding", as part of a three-part lecture series being run by the university, You Are What You Eat? The Science of Food. Professor Renfrew said: "Raising breastfeeding rates could be the single most effective public health intervention globally. Yet many politicians, health workers, people in the media and the wider public argue that how mothers feed their babies is simply a matter of personal choice."
