University of York - Campus expansion plan heats up

Biomass is to be used to meet the University of York's commitment to provide at least 10 per cent of its new campus expansion's energy needs through renewable sources. It plans to build a biomass boiler on the Heslington East site to generate hot water using wood chips from local sustainable sources. The boiler would meet 10 per cent of renewable energy requirements for all buildings in phase one of the expansion.
