Gavin Esler, presenter of Newsnight, and musician Dougie MacLean investigated their family histories at the University of Strathclyde's International Genealogy Festival last week. Bruce Durie, director of the university's genealogy course, worked with the famous Scots to uncover what made them the people they are today. He said their family histories were representative of Scotland's past. The findings will be broadcast by BBC Radio Scotland later this year.
