Honeybees are being provided with a new home in the grounds of Scotland's oldest university in an attempt to preserve the threatened species. The University of St Andrews has worked with the Fife Beekeepers' Association to construct its first apiary, which will be used to train new beekeepers while offering a facility for research into the behaviour and ecology of the insects. With more hives planned, the university hopes to improve the biodiversity of its land and provide a model for sustainable honey production in the future.
