A revolutionary piece of software allowing enhanced analysis and management of forensic crime scenes has been developed by engineers at the University of Sheffield. The software provides a common environment for acquiring, enhancing, searching and comparing a range of crime-scene evidence. This means that a digital photograph of a shoeprint, for example, can be transmitted from a crime scene to a forensic bureau, checked against a database, and then sent to an investigator in the field.
