Rare peregrine falcons are being encouraged to nest in Sheffield for the first time after a university estates team constructed a special platform on a local church. Over the past few years, the birds have been seen flying over the city, but have never successfully nested. The platform was constructed with assistance from the University of Sheffield's Bird Study Group and advice from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Those involved said they were "quietly optimistic" it will be used.
