Mites may be able to provide vital clues to help crack serious crimes but are being overlooked by forensic scientists. According to Alejandra Perotti, an expert in forensic acarology at the University of Reading's School of Biological Sciences, mites could help detectives establish how, when and why a person died. Because they are micro-habitat-specific, they could also provide evidence to show that bodies have been moved after death, or help to link suspects to crime scenes. Her findings have been published in the Experimental and Applied Acarology journal.
